The football game of 2012 even with a 2-0 victory over the Montreal Impact before a sparse but
boisterous crowd at BMO Field on Wednesday night, Toronto FC remains the
only one of 19 teams in Major League nice Soccer without a win or a point to
show for the 2012 season.
But the Reds’ win in the semifinal of the great Canadian Championship 2012 ends
their 11-game win less streak in all competitions (0-9-2). And it sends
them to the final of the 2012 championship, beginning next week, where they
will look to win a fourth straight title. More importantly, it offered a huge spirits boost of confidence to the local
11 and extended the lifeline to beleaguered main head coach Aron Winter, who
undoubtedly would have faced more calls for his firing if the Reds had
lost goals again.
But Toronto certainly didn’t make it easy on themselves. After opening the scoring in the second minute, the Reds young's played the
final 74 minutes down a man. That was a particularly grave situation
given that the Impact only needed a tie to win on away last goals after the
two clubs played to a 0-0 draw in Montreal last week.
